Goldback Gold Notes are available for a total of three states now with the release of New Hampshire notes. Joining the states of Utah and Nevada in the East, one of the homes of Revolution in the United States now takes its place as another state backing the use of gold notes as voluntary local currency.
The new New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes are not a form of US legal tender currency. Since 1933, gold has been out of circulation as a means of payment for commercial transactions in the United States. However, a legal tender act passed in Utah in 2011 established the first set of guidelines for a return of gold to use as a form of circulation currency.
In the case of the Goldback Gold Notes, the gold is a form of voluntary currency that vendors can opt to participate in using for the exchange of goods and services. Each one is only usable in the state it is issued on behalf of. For example, these notes could be used only in New Hampshire with a participating vendor.
All of the 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes listed here come with a protective plastic currency sleeve. Although gold notes are produced using thin layers of gold bullion between two polyester sheets, the protection of the polyester only goes so far. The use of plastic currency sleeves in shipping and displaying the notes boosts the protection of each piece against possible damage.
This flag was commonly used during the American Revolution by the colonists forming militias and the Continental Army. The flag was designed by Colonel Joseph Reed in October 1775 and was used by cruisers of the Continental Navy under the commission of George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.
The obverse field of the 50 New Hampshire Goldback Gold Note features an image of Libertas as a young woman. She walks along with arrows in her right hand, a symbol of readiness for the fight, while her left hand holds high overhead an important flag. This flag has a lone pine tree at its center and the phrase “An Appeal to God.”
On the reverse side of New Hampshire Goldback Gold Notes, you will find only a reflection of the obverse design. There are no enhanced colors or other graphics on this side, merely the mirror image of the obverse. Aurum gold notes are produced by Valaurum in the United States of America using 24-karat gold.
