All 2023 1 oz South African Big Five Elephant Coins were struck in .9999 pure gold and will arrive in BU condition. As such, few, if any, flaws will be visible upon inspection. The coins will be delivered in either flips or plastic tubes if your order is multiples of 10.

The obverse of 2023 South African Gold Big Five Elephant Coins features an elephant in closeup. This design gives us a great glimpse of the elephant’s ears, tusks, and the upper portion of the trunk. The obverse also contains the coat of arms of South Africa, which confirms the coin’s legal tender status.

On the reverse of the 2023 1 oz South African Gold Big Five Coin, a closeup view of two halves of an elephant’s face is shown. If you line up multiple coins horizontally, it will form a complete picture of the face. The reverse also shows inscriptions reading Fifty Rand, 1 oz, Au 999.9.

Despite being the world’s largest land animal, African elephants are gentle and loving creatures.  They’re also incredibly intelligent, with their brains functioning at high levels across multiple areas. Their memory, for instance, is remarkable. For survival purposes, they are able to remember a wide range of routes to different food and water sources. Additionally, they have the ability to recall both fellow elephants and humans years after their last encounter with them.
