Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins debuted in 1979. That year featured only a 1 oz gold coin with .999 purity. From 1979 to November 1982, that was the only available option for investors in this gold bullion collection. When the series’ first expanded in 1982, the options introduced at that point included 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins. It wasn’t until 1986 that the 1/2 oz gold coin was added to the series.
These 2021 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are available from the Royal Canadian Mint inside sealed sheets of 10 coins. Individual specimens arrive in protective plastic flips.
On the obverse side of 2021 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins, you will find the right-profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in a design created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and introduced in 2005 in this coin series. Her Majesty is shown with no crown on her head, a first during her reign as the Queen of England and head of the Commonwealth.
The reverse face of 2021 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins features a depiction of the sugar maple leaf. The maple leaf has long been an emblem for Canada, from its days as a French colonial trade outpost to British colonization and Canadian independence. This sugar maple leaf design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott.
