Mexican Libertad Coins are unique among bullion coin collections for a number of reasons, but one of the most obvious is a lack of a noted face value on the coins. Like the South African Krugerrand Coins, the Mexican Libertad Coins are considered legal tender by the issuing nation, but the Libertad boasts a floating face value based on the price of silver per ounce on a given day. This is the opposite of coins such as the American Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, British Britannia, and Chinese Panda collections.
The obverse of the 2021 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins features the statue of Winged Victory. The image of Victory is based on the Roman and Greek goddess known as Nike or Victoria. A figure worshipped by victorious generals; Victory was adopted in Mexican culture after the nations victory over Spain in its war of independence. She is featured on the obverse of the coins along with the mountain peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background.
On the reverse side of 2021 Mexican Silver Libertad Coins is the national coat of arms. The Mexican coat of arms featured here is the modern symbol with a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus as it attempts to devour a rattlesnake. The border design field includes 10 historic versions of the same seal.
