Description
The Buffalo Nickel is considered one of the greatest classic coin designs in America. Designed by James Earle Fraser, this coin was used on the 5-cent piece from 1913 to 1938. Today, it is replicated on various products, including the American Gold Buffalo bullion coin and silver rounds. You can buy the design from Metals Mint on the 1/2 oz SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round.
The SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round is available in individual plastic flips or protective plastic tubes of 20 rounds. It features a replica design of the famous Buffalo Nickel and contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure silver. The obverse side includes the image of a Native American tribal member in right-profile relief, while the reverse side features the depiction of an American bison in left-profile relief.
Each 1/2 oz SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round comes with individual or bulk packaging. The rounds are offered in plastic flips when purchased individually or in multiples of less than 20 rounds. Multiples of 20 silver rounds will arrive in a protective plastic tube.
James Earle Fraser’s design for the Buffalo Nickel was approved by the administration of President William Howard Taft in 1913. The design replaced the Liberty Head Nickel and became one of America’s greatest coin designs of the 20th century. It was so popular that the US Mint revived it in 2006 for the gold bullion American Gold Buffalo Series. Private mints also use it on both silver rounds, silver bars, and copper bars.
The obverse design element on the SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round features the famous right-profile bust of an indigenous American. This tribal figure has a stoic look on his face and is said to have been created by Fraser using three different tribal figures as inspiration for the appearance of the figure.
The reverse visuals on the SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round offer a glimpse of the power and majesty of the American bison. The depiction shows the bison in left-profile relief with its full frame featured standing atop a mound of dirt. The bison shown here was inspired by Black Diamond, a resident bison of the Central Park Zoo in 1913.
