The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States in the 1880s as a gift from the people of France, and designed by a French artist of the time. Constructed of copper on the outer layer, Liberty was actually constructed in totality in France, disassembled, and shipped to the United States where it was then put back together in New York Harbor.
To this day, the Statue of Liberty stands in the harbor as a symbol of hope, freedom, and limitless possibility to those seeking an end to oppression elsewhere. The statue has greeted millions of new US citizens on their arrival at Ellis Island.
On the obverse of the 1 oz SilverTowne Lady Liberty Silver Round is a front-facing portrait of Lady Liberty as she appears on the Statue of Liberty itself. Her image is a depiction of the Roman goddess of freedom, Libertas. She stands in a robe with one hand held above her head with a torch, while she holds a tablet evoking the laws of the land in her other hand. The Statue of Liberty’s tablet has the inscription of America’s date of independence, July 4, 1776.
The reverse of all SilverTowne Lady Liberty Silver Rounds includes the image of Liberty’s torch. Her torch is representative of a guiding light that she holds aloft for all to see around the world, offering the shining light of freedom to all those who feel and experience the darkness of oppression.
SilverTowne is a private minting facility in the United States. Located in the state of Indiana in a rural town, it started out in 1949 as a small coin shop and has grown into one of the most influential facilities in the country.
