The original Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced by the United States Mint in 1878, and marked the restart of coining for silver dollar coins in the US. The Coinage Act of 1873 resulted in the end of the Seated Liberty Silver Dollar coin and the practice of free silver minting in the United States.
Today, Morgan Silver Dollar coins are difficult to find for some investors and collectors. The 1 oz Sunshine Morgan Silver Round offers investors and collectors the chance to own this iconic design, without paying higher premiums for the original bullion coins. As a silver round, these coins have no face value. With that said, they bear the same design sets found on original Morgan Silver Dollars.
On the obverse side of the round is the image of Lady Liberty as created by George T. Morgan. A native of England, Morgan’s first work for the US Mint was to design Lady Liberty for the new silver dollar. He sat with Anna Willess Williams to craft his image of Liberty.
The reverse side of this round bears the bald eagle with its wings spread wide, clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Engravings on both sides of these rounds mimic the original Morgan Silver Dollar, with the exception of a date of minting and face value.
Sunshine Minting is a private mint operating in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It has production facilities in the US states of Idaho and Nevada. The mint provides not only bullion and custom minting, but also blanks for other mints to produce coins.
