Britannia embodies the idea of a united British identity. She represents the collective spirit of England, Scotland, and Wales, often portrayed with symbols or elements from each of these nations, such as the Union Jack (the UK flag) or the thistle of Scotland.

Britannia is frequently associated with the idea of protecting the British Isles. Her shield represents the defensive nature of the nation, safeguarding its people and interests. The trident she holds may also signify control over the seas and maritime power.

The obverse side of the 2024 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coin features a bust of His Majesty King Charles III. This is just the second time the new monarch has featured on Britannia coins. The design was created by Martin Jennings and shows the new king in left-profile relief without a crown.
